August 19, 2014CASSE is thrilled to announce a joint research project with the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (CAAC) to develop and evaluate a model of best practice of Aboriginal Men’s sheds in Alice Springs/Central Australia. The project will be based at Ingkintja, the male health service at CAAC.
The project seeks to provide support for men to heal from traumatic experiences and support the empowerment of men in their communities in order to create safe and supportive communities for all members and promote emotional well-being. It is a participatory action research or empowerment research program which is culturally informed and community directed. An Elders Male Council will be established and men will be encouraged to participate in group programs. They will work together to develop an Aboriginal best practice men’s shed model and programs.
The research proposal has just been approved by CAHREC – The Central Australian Health and Research Ethics Committee.
This is pioneering research! More news on the project coming soon…
